2C Parents Weekend
10-12 October 2014
Parents’ Weekend offers an exceptional opportunity for parents to visit with their midshipman in the historic surroundings of the Academy and the town of Annapolis and to expand their knowledge of the traditions, academic life and unique atmosphere of the Naval Academy. The schedule of events planned during 2nd Class Parents' Weekend provide an experience that we hope is both enjoyable and informative. The academic facilities of the Naval Academy will be on display throughout the weekend. Visitors will be able to visit these state-of-the-art facilities and meet with the talented and dedicated men and women who make the Academy an unparalleled undergraduate institution.
Many special events are planned including lunch in King Hall, a full dress parade, the Navy vs. VMI football game, and a Glee Club & Gospel Choir Concert. Tickets to this concert can be purchased by going to http://navyperforms.showare.
Also, you can join us in celebrating USNA Founder's Day Friday October 10th, and the Navy's Birthday on Monday October 13th. Through the efforts of the Secretary of the Navy George Bancroft, the Naval School was established without Congressional funding, at a 10-acre Army post named Fort Severn in Annapolis, Maryland, on October 10, 1845, with a class of 50 midshipmen and seven professors. The curriculum included mathematics and navigation, gunnery and steam, chemistry, English, naval philosophy, and French.
