Navy Crew Training Facilities
Hubbard
Hall Boathouse: Fisher Rowing Center Hubbard
Hall, located on College Creek just a few hundred yards from the Severn River,
is the home of Navy's crew program. The Boathouse is a
three-story structure built in 1930 and accommodates
over two hundred athletes for their daily training regime.
The shell storage area can house 28 eight-oared shells, 8 four-man boats and 7 racing pairs. Also on the first floor is a 3,500-square foot weight room which includes assorted weight machines, free weights and one of our three ergometer training areas. Bordering the east side of the building is our ten-man indoor rowing tank and team-meeting area.
New locker rooms, showers, training spaces and offices have been created. A new exercise room called the "Erg Porch" was created by enclosing the existing balcony on the north side of the boathouse. Large windows lining the north wall and skylights running the length of the room create a beautiful training room. Inside the room are 25 of our 90 ergometers used by all squads.
The "second deck" also includes the King Room, a wood-paneled 1,600 square foot lounge and trophy room. Adjacent to the King Room is the "N" Room which is used by Navy crews as a training table during spring vacation workouts. The "N" Room also acts as the Athletic Department catering service and banquet room. Every Letter Winner in Navy history, including Roger Staubach and David Robinson, has their name engraved on the walls of the legendary "N" Room. On
the third floor is our secondary weight room which includes two computer-aided
row-perfect stations. The third
floor also houses one of our meeting rooms equipped
with state-of-the-art video equipment. Ricketts
Hall: Varsity
Weight Room Ricketts Hall, renovated and expanded in 1995, includes a modern physical training and video equipment for varsity athletes and an up-to-date 12,000 square foot weight room.
Halsey Field House: Indoor Track, Cardio Facility, and VO2max Lab
Completed in 1957 and named after Fleet Admiral William "Bull" Halsey Jr., a 1904 Naval Academy graduate, and a World War II naval hero, the 80,000-square foot Halsey Field House is used by several athletic teams during the winter months including the crew program. Along with the running track, Halsey's North Wing houses multi-purpose rooms, a varsity weight room, conditioning gym, and Sports Fitness Engineering Lab. |
