Degree Granting Authority and Accreditation

The United States Naval Academy is granted the authority to confer bachelor of science degrees on midshipmen who complete all requirements per Title X of the United States Code §8467.

The United States Naval Academy is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE).  MSCHE is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). USNA also maintains programmatic accreditation in a number of areas:

The following engineering programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET, Inc., (abet.org) : Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, General Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Ocean Engineering, and Robotics and Control Engineering.  The Computer Science, Cyber Operations, and Information Technology programs are accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC) of ABET, Inc., (abet.org ) .  ABET accepts complaints involving member institutions at  abet.org/accreditation/get-accredited/complaints/.

The Chemistry major is certified by the American Chemical Society. 

The Cyber Operations program has been granted National Security Agency (NSA) designation as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Operations (CAE-CO) and Cyber Defense (CAE-CD).
