Supe's Letter to Parents of the class of 2026

Effective Monday, May 11, 2026, General Public Visitation (GPV) will resume for the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) and Naval Support Activity (NSA) Annapolis.

This change will take effect ahead of Commissioning Week 2026, including the Blue Angels Show and Herndon Climb.

While GPV is reinstated, the Trusted Traveler Program remains suspended. Visitors should expect enhanced security measures and possible temporary access controls during highly attended events.

DBIDS Card Holder Vehicle Access During Commissioning Week

Vehicle access and parking on the Yard is limited. DBIDS card holders will not be allowed to drive on the Naval Academy Monday, May 18-21 from 0600-1800 due to limited space available. DBIDS card holders can still access the base walking through Gate 1, 3 or 8, or by utilizing the bus transportation.
(This does not apply to staff, faculty, contractors, or those with DOD ID cards)

What to Expect

  • General public access is permitted for pedestrians beginning May 11th through Gate 1 (VCC) or Gate 8
  • Trusted Traveler remains suspended
  • Increased security posture across both installations
  • Delays, screening, and temporary restrictions may occur during major events

Foreign National Access

  • Remains restricted for general public visitation

Accepted IDs for Visitors accessing through Pedestrian Gate 1 or Pedestrian Gate 8:

  • REAL ID-compliant Driver’s License or State ID card (look for the five-point star on the card)
  • U.S. Passport or Passport Card (foreign passports are not permitted for general public access)
  • Enhanced Driver’s License (EDL) issued by Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Vermont, or Washington

Additional Requirements

  • All persons 18 years of age and older must have a valid REAL ID-compliant credential, Enhanced Driver’s License, or U.S. Passport.
  • Visitors under the age of 18 without a valid ID must be escorted by a responsible adult with a valid form of identification.
  • All visitors will undergo a bag check and magnetometer screening prior to entering the installation. Random personnel and vehicle searches will be conducted at all gates and throughout the installation.

We appreciate your flexibility and cooperation as we support a safe and successful Commissioning Week.
