Musician 1st Class Andrew Lyster
Euphonium
Musician 1st Class Andrew Lyster is a native of Fort Worth, Texas. He has earned a Bachelor of Music in performance from The University of North Texas, a Master of Music from The Royal Northern College of Music, and has completed studies toward a doctoral degree at The University of Texas. His primary teachers have been Dr. Nathaniel Brickens, Dr. Brian Bowman, Christian Jones, and Steven Mead.
Prior to joining the Navy, Lyster played with ensembles such as The United States Air Force Band, The Black Dyke Band, The Brighouse and Rastrick band, and The Brass Band of Chicago.
Lyster began his military music career with the U.S. Navy in 2017. After completion of Musician “A” school, he reported to Navy Band Great Lakes in Great Lakes, Illinois, where he performed with the brass quintet, marching and ceremonial units, wind ensemble and was regularly featured as a soloist on both trombone and euphonium.
In 2021, Lyster auditioned and was selected for assignment to the U.S. Naval Academy Band where he reported for duty as euphonium instrumentalist to Annapolis following Veterans’ training at RTC Great Lakes. He performs with the marching band, ceremonial units, wind ensemble, brass ensemble, trombone ensemble, brass trio, and brass quintet. He also serves as Library Assistant and Minor Property Coordinator.
Lyster's awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Navy Good Conduct Medal.
